Familiarity

I have spent far too few moments treasuring the beauty of familiarity. The thought struck me late the other night when I was in the bathroom, cutting my husband's hair. I don't know why it struck me then. I've done it countless times before. But this time, somehow the simple intimacy of knowing exactly how he likes his hair and snipping my clippers accordingly while he watched me in the mirror seemed profound. There is something to be said about sharing your life with someone. Growing up and growing old together. That idea is often romanticized by stories and movies, but amidst the day to day living of that life, the appreciation for it can be lost.

To be truly known by someone, with all knowledge of your past and present, your weaknesses and strengths exposed and still loved. That is beautiful. What a privilege it is to be the one that he knows better than anyone. And to experience the seemingly insignificant day-to-day of growing old together with someone. To me there's nothing, even in the constant stream of new and exciting, that could top or fulfill as much as that warm familiarity.

Little Big Town

Life has been a little... rough lately. It's almost humorous how bad this month has been! It's just been one thing after another. I was listening to the radio today when a particular song came on. I had to listen to listen to it a few times to believe how perfectly this song describes my husband and how he treats me. I tend to get upset over silly things but husband is my constant calm. He tells me it will be okay. He shows me how to look at the positive side of things.  He is without a doubt the most incredible man I have ever met in my entire life... and lucky me, I get to call him mine :)

Bring It On Home by Little Big Town
You got someone here wants to make it alright
Someone who loves you more than life right here
You got willing arms that'll hold you tight
A hand to lead you on through the night right here
I know your heart can get all tangled up inside
But don't you keep it to yourself

[Chorus:]
When your long day is over
And you can barely drag your feet
The weight of the world is on your shoulders
I know what you need
Bring it on home to me

You know I know you like the back of my hand
But did you know I'm gonna do all that I can right here
I'm gonna lie with you till you fall asleep
When the morning comes I'm still gonna be right here (yes I am)
So take your worries and just drop them at the door
Baby leave it all behind

[Chorus]

Baby let me be your safe harbor
Don't let the water come and carry you away

[Chorus]

You got someone here wants to make it alright
Someone who loves you more than life right here

Husband.

I JUST love you. You've saved me from my self destructive ways... You are my calm and my peace. You are my constant source of encouragement and happiness. I love your little isms! I love the silly faces you make and the voices that go with them. I love when we lay on the living room floor and talk about nothing. I love dancing together in the kitchen every morning while we cook breakfast. I love resting my head on your legs while you tell me about your day. I love your sweet nothing whispers. I love how you are so sweet to me even when I'm not exactly the happiest person. And even when I over-react and get upset over silly things, you say "I love you anyway". I love that you care. I love that you listen. I'm so excited for this list to grow each new moment I spend with you.

Here's to forever.

I love you,
Your Bay

Husband on his 23rd birthday :)
Isn't he handsome?

happy

Guess what?

I am happy.

We are happy.

I wake up to my husband pushing the snooze button.
I wake up happy.

I get texts throughout the day from husband.
{the silliest and sweetest of texts mind you}
I'm beaming all day {happy}

I come home to my happy husband who literally sweeps me off my feet when I walk through the door. Sometimes he hears my car pull up and runs to the door to welcome me. Then he kisses me all over my face and tells me how much he missed me and I drop everything. We go snuggle for at least 5 minutes before we get started on whatever the next thing on the "to do list" is.
And I happily do that thing.

often, happiness is an impulse.
but other times it's a decision.

I suppose there are a lot of reasons I could be unhappy.
But I choose to be happy.

and the husband helps a lot a lot.
:)
